Project
Pet Safe Haven
The Silver Creek Regional Humane Society, Inc. will assist in temporary
sheltering of pets belonging to people who are in crisis shelter,
referred by staff or an agency directly working with the family
while they are in a shelter or safe location. Routine care can
be provided for up to 90 days at no cost to the client. Stay can
only be extended at the discretion of humane society management
and referral staff. The Society cannot accept animals that are
aggressive, are not the client's pet(s) or have previously bitten
someone. Animals must be current on routine vaccinations including
rabies. Due to space limitations and foster homes the number of
pets must be limited to 3 (three) per family. Shelter client must
provide specific pet information to shelter or Humane Society staff
prior to animal being sheltered.
During their stay the animals will receive the following:
- Adequate major pet food (Purina-Pedigree), however, special diet
or food must be provided by the owner. Cooked food, if normally given,
can be cooked by foster home
- Clean quarters,
fresh water, toys personal attention, and exercise.
- Administration
of prescribed medication (must be in original bottle with instructions
of dosage, times, etc.)
- Record
of vaccinations and name of personal veterinarian in case of emergency.
Current vaccinations are mandatory. If pet is not current the Humane
Society will provide routine vaccination at Humane Society expense,
however, rabies vaccination must be given at a discount by local
veterinarian.
- Extraordinary
direct emergency medical care such as fractures, burns, lacerations,
etc., will be provided if needed. These services will be billed directly
by the attending veterinarian after notification and authorization
to owner and/or counselor.
- Contact
and visits between pet(s) and owner may not be possible for safety
sake, however, contact with the foster family can be made through
the Office.
- The cost
of all extraordinary medical care will be the responsibility of the
owner.
